Today the Internet. Tomorrow ... baked goods?

Margy Daly, owner of Margy's Daily Bakery, 121 South Jay St. on the corner of Erie Blvd. West, has created a Bob the Squirrel-inspired muffin, after the comic strip character created by Daily Sentinel cartoonist Frank Page and featured on the Internet at: www.bobthesquirrel.com. For all the Atkins Diet people out there, the muffin does NOT contain squirrels! Page explains how the muffin idea popped up: "I had been stopping by Margy's shop on a regular basis. Struggling for ideas one late night, I started to think about what I was going to get at the bakery the following morning - and it just hit me.

That night, I outined a week's worth of strips featuring Frank and Bob marveling over a bakery that makes cinnamon buns 'the size of Bob.' I never mention the bakery by name but anyone who has been to Margy's would immediately know to who and what I was referring. "About a month after the comics went out, I told Margy I had featured her gooey cinnamon creations in my strip."

"Almost jokingly I said she should name a cookie or something after Bob the Squirrel. I figured she would get a chuckle out of that and that was it. But, faced with an inviting challenge like that, Daly set her oven in motion." A week or so later, and after a little bit of tweaking, the Bob Muffin was born. Health, as well as taste, played pivotal roles in the Bob Muffin recipie. "I read a book once called 'Have You Ever Seen A Fat Squirrel?' Of course it was a diet book. It suggested things like grains, seeds and raisins. So I decided that Bob needed a healthy muffin," said Daly. The muffin features raisins, oats and sunflower seeds.

Bob's Muffins seem to be catching on with Margy's customers. "Those who notice Bob's Muffins ask 'Who's Bob?' Then they want to know what's in them ...so far, anyone who's tried them comes back for more. Some actually like the healthy side of a bakery." Page said it was an honor to have someone spend their time creating something insipred by my comic strip." He invited his fans, and Bob's to "stop by Margy's and see what all the fuss is about."
